A Tribute to Candy

a side note first: i am officially boycotting italian food for the present.

anyways- to more serious matters.

Candy! You're one of the sweetest people i know. i still remember how we met by discussing your mozzie bites, and then 9th grade camp and that horrid spider, and sars long phone calls, and working together for that bulletin board at vtc, and bible studies and planning bdays, and shopping at shatin. i still don't know you as well as i'd like to- you're one of the sweetest people i know! but we'll keep in touch right? you better email me once in a while in between your cramming sessions and overflowing social life- and invite me to your wedding! im sure you'll suceed in whatever you do- and reach all the dreams and goals that you desire, the ones that we talk about and the ones that we don't... God bless~

To Nostalgia

Toasts are a rather interesting concept. What does it mean to drink to something- you show your commitment to the object (like an apostrophe- mrs. stephen! ap lit is useful!!) by demonstrating your alcohol tolerance? hmmm. so lo and behold-

A Compilation of Toasts

the more common ones
- To Long life and good health
- To happiness
- To (insert random person's name)
- To friendship

the less common ones
- To orgasms (seriously- when youre drinking an "orgasm cocktail", what better thing to toast to? ditto for "slow comfortable sex", "sex on the beach" and so on.. i swear- the only reason they're named that is because waiters get a kick out of hearing 'can i have an orgasm please' or 'i'd like an orgasm now please' or fill in with your ahem. dirty imagination)
- To sarcasm
- To suicide bombers
- To lost loves, old friends, old gods, and the season of mists... hmm. strike a chord there?
- To old friends- lorraine, chaos, derek, faye- i hope we'll get to meet up! felix- i'm so glad i ran into you! claire- im glad we've become friends again!

well- at least that's what i'd toast to right now if i was toasting to anything! with any luck they'll come in handy some day.

so- come on! For those of you who have unfortunately ventured onto this post- leave me a comment and an online toast!

For those who saw something between the slurs

Dreams. A word of innumerable connotations. The Oxford Dictionary defines it in two ways. It is either 1) Region outside laws of nature, something of the imagination, something unreal. Or 2) a mental picture of the future. But is there really such a clear distinction? Or rather, should there be?

Perhaps you've heard of the sandman comics, in which each episode is characterized by the overlapping between the dream world and reality. Let's not abide by the man-made distinction between idealism and realism.

The main point the comics make, and I quote, is that “Dreams are real. But they are made of viewpoints, of images, of memories and puns and lost hopes.” Let's try and remember our lost hopes- the “childish” desire to fly is what gave us the airplane, the dreams of a child turned Walt Disney’s Folly into his masterpiece, the seemingly useless talents of a man who almost kidnapped his own daughter for money makes possible our escapades to KFC.

The Sandman features characters that include Dream, and his siblings Despair, Destiny, Desire. Dreaming is a dangerous pursuit, closely related to Despair, Destiny, Desire, full of chances and uncertainties, but let’s toast to our journey- “To absent friends, lost loves, old hopes, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due.”

Let's make our lives such stuff as dreams are made of.

A sudden bout of sickness

There's something about calc homework that always makes me want to post. I guess i'll be seeing a pretty blog-free summer then.
So here goes- more verbal diarrhea.

Today is officially Memorial Day for All Lost Files Sufferers.
It is a general fact that second versions are never as good as the first, evidence below- of course, now that i've said it, i can leave you (and me) pleasantly wondering about how good the first version was.

Of course, officially, officially it's tianmen memorial day! Long live dissenters.

Er- no pun intended up there. I just realized how rationally sane that sentence is, considering the amount of dissenters getting bulldozed and beaten up and locked up.

It would be hilarious if the memorial people- who are technically protesting the original protestors' deaths- got rolled over by Chinese tanks. Okay- maybe not hilarious. Morbidly funny. Er- ironic? Same thing really.

I couldn't go because I had school tomorrow. I COULDN'T GO BECAUSE I HAD SCHOOL TOMORROW. So instead we were politically active by shopping in Mong Kok. Irene's feet were protesting after a while. Shit- Irene's feet was more of a protestor than we were.

I met Laura today, axe-wielding murderess at MUN through Irene. She's going to Wadham, Oxford or Yale as backup. Fate is blind.

A few days ago in Calc,
Charlotte: Who wrote the book list for Muse?
Kay: I did.
Amanda: YOU like sandman?
Kay: Yep- of course.
Amanda: I love you!!
Kay: (to which i could only respond) I love you too!!!
To which she walks out of the room.
This all happened five feet away, so everyone was staring at her like she was nutters.

I love randomness.
